A Late Night...

This past week I've been feeling pretty tired, probably due to lots of homework and some big tests, and yet I find myself up again into the early morning hours. Strange huh? Oh well, I thought since I was up and there isn't much to do at 5:30 am, I could give some Haiku a shot. These will be some themes of whatever comes to mind, but computer themes will most likely be prevalent since I have been doing a lot with Artificial Intelligence programming and computer security. So here's my Haiku.

Untitled

Code scrolling slowly,
Thinking without human mind,
Virtual living.

Untitled

Cyber creation,
Digital synapses link,
Virtual playground.

Cracking

Code scrolling quickly,
Executing commands,
Cracking defenses;

Slipping in systems,
Gathering information,
Breaking down a life.

All right there we go. These actually took me a few days to write, though the ideas were all from the first day. Hope you enjoyed them, and as always comments are appreciated.

Passing the Time

I realized today that it's been a while since I wrote any Haiku, it's not that I've been busy, but I just haven't had the drive to write anything for a while. Plus school has been keeping me busy with homework and jobs on campus. Which happens to be what I'm waiting for now, one of my jobs as a math tutor. So since I had a little down time I thought I would get a few Haiku down. These are jst some on the spot Haiku, so I'm not sure how they'll turn out, but I'll give it a shot.

Untitled

Sinking softly down,
Red-orange fire burns across,
Slowly darkening;

Blue-black hues spreading,
Like a soft blanket pulled close,
Soft night lights brighten;

Time of reflection,
The days thoughts and joys swirling,
Settling, calming end.

I think that will be all for tonight, hopefully it will kind of get me into writing some more again. As always, comments are appreciated. And title suggestions wouldn't be bad either. Hope you enjoyed this Haiku.

Getting By

I'm already halfway through my second week of college, and while I was looking through an old notebook of Haiku I found one that I wrote for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign I played in with some friends. When I wrote it I made it as kind of a commemorative Haiku to celebrate us actually getting started with the game. It had taken us like 2 months to get it started, and we had a blast playing together. Anyway, here's the Haiku and I hope you all enjoy it.

Untitled

Seven warriors
Faced with wearisome battle
Banding together

Through perilous fights
Clinging to their hope and light
Fighting for all

Through the countless foes
Through endless dungeons traveled
The heroes fight on

Refusing to fall
Drawing closer together
Sharing their courage

The warriors stand
Bravely facing their terror
Enemies cower

Returning again
The seven worn from battle
Having faced their foes

Triumphant return
Praised as heroes far and wide
What will come after?

As always comments and title suggestions are appreciated. I would also appreciate any comments on the new layout. I decided to change the layout just because I've been using the same layout from when I originally made the page. So hopefully everyone enjoys the new layout, and look forward to future posts to feed your Haiku craving!

School Again

Once again i am back in school, this time starting my 3rd year of college and my last at Bethany Lutheran College. Tonight is the end of my third day of classes and all of them seem to be fairly fun so far, though a little homework intensive. Anyway, the Haiku I have is one that i just wrote the other day with no real inspiration. I just put my pencil to the paper and let the words flow. No title for this one, cause even I am trying to figure exactly what made me write this. Oh well, enjoy.

Untitled

Why do you fear me?
Why build a wall within you?
What have you to fear?

Tell me your secrets,
Your fears, your hopes, desires,
All you shield from them;

Mine I gave away,
You holding all within you,
But I none of yours;

Let me be your shield,
Your fortress, your comforter,
Let me be but yours;

Naught is left from me,
That is not yours, nothing hides,
Naught is left beside;

Naught I ask but this,
Your trust, your faith, your love,
For that I gave you;

An exchange of hearts,
A priceless treasure kept safe,
In each other's arms.

Hope everyone enjoyed it, as always comments are appreciated as well as title suggestions. As soon as I figure exactly what gave me the thought to write this I may have a better idea of a title...

Iowa: Land of Endless Cornfields

I've been in Milford, Iowa for the past week helping with a vacation bible school at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church and I've been having a pretty good time. My best friend has been here helping as well with one of her friends, and I think we've all been having fun. Any way, since it's almost time for us to be heading home I thought I would write a couple of Haiku using my experiences here as inspiration. And yes, I do have a bit more for inspiration than just corn. Actually, the first night here was the first time I have ever seen fireflies, which is what gave me the idea for the first two.

Fleeting Stars

Soft, fleeting flashes,
Floating just above the ground,
Mimicking the stars;

Briefly flaring suns,
Gently lighting the dark night,
Stars above, below.

Untitled

A flash of light,
Reaching quickly to snatch it,
Light held in a jar.

Untitled

Gently held friendship,
Comforting closeness is found,
All else disappears;

All that had been lost,
Found once more in quiet warmth,
In gentle feelings;

Sharing deepest bonds,
No need for words, silent thoughts,
Sharing in silence.

The third is just one I wrote, not with any specific inspiration, but a couple of different experiences lent to the writing. Hope everyone enjoys these, and as always comments and title suggestions are appreciated.

Ocean time

I just got back today from a 6 night trip to the ocean with my family, which provided a much needed getaway from, well, everything. While there, I decided a good way to focus my thoughts was to write some Haiku. Needless to say, the theme of most of them are, surprise, the ocean. So, here are my beach Haiku, in order of being written, from my trip. Enjoy.

Untitled

Gently blowing warmth,
Cool sand and waves caressing,
Friendship held in hand.

Untitled

Quiet summer's day,
Gently lapping waves at shore,
Tranquil beach at noon.

Untitled

Hot, scorching sunlight,
Gentle, cooling winds at play,
Summer at its best.

Untitled

Soaring high above,
Gliding through the cloudless sky,
Freedom of the wing.

Untitled

Clouds; drifting, hanging,
Low in the mountain forests,
Shrouds of mystery.

All right, hope everyone enjoys these Haiku. May come back through later and see if I can come up with a title or two. As always, comments and title suggestions are appreciated.

Missing You

So, my amazing girlfriend is in California for the summer participating in a research program doing matrix completion problems and having a blast. Unfortunately I'm in Washington and wishing I was down there with her. And it's looking like I won't be having any time to make a road trip south as I had wanted to do seeing as how I have no money to pay for it due to a lack of a job. So I get to just cheer her on from here and look forward to when I get to see her again in August. If you couldn't tell by now, the theme of my Haiku this time are about the difficulties and loneliness we feel while being apart from the ones we love, while the hope we have of the time we get to spend with them in the future gives us strength.

Missing You

Your touch, your laughter,
The warmth as you embrace me,
Your beautiful eyes;

These I remember,
These I hold within my heart,
My dearest treasure;

These I remember,
As I wait to be with you,
These feelings of love.

Okay, so, it was a little mushier than what I expected at first, but turned out pretty good. Here's wishing her the best of luck and fun during her summer. Comments are appreciated, and no title suggestions are needed this time, which means I'm doing fairly well recently with titles.

Summer fun

So this summer is turning out to be pretty awesome. I've been able to hang out with friends and just have a good time in general. So I don't really have any specific themes to start with for these Haiku, just going to use summer experiences as the themes I think. All right, free write of Haiku, go!

Summer Bliss

Sitting here with friends,
Relaxing the day away,
This is summer bliss.

Untitled

Crackling, sparkling light,
Dancing flames, glowing embers,
Starry sky above;

Quiet, gentle laughs,
Sharing pleasant company,
Quiet summers night.

Well, that went fairly well. A little shorter than normal, but still good. Hope everyone enjoys these Haiku. As always, comments and title suggestions are appreciated.

The start of summer

Okay, so it's a little late on the start of summer, but hey, beginnings start where they may. Anyway, I've been meaning to start writing a little more, so I figured today was as good as any. I'm just gonna go with one for today, but hopefully I can keep myself motivated to do at least one a week, possibly more. So, this one is kind of inspired by the daily struggles we overcome, and what keeps us going through this chaotic world we live in. I think everyone at some point feels like there's no end to things, and yet we keep going because we all have something to keep struggling for. Whether that be friends, family, a sense of duty, or whatever, that reason is there. So, yeah, hope you like it.

Strength (Title by Laura Miller)

A slash, a thrust, forward,
Enemies come from all sides,
All fall at the bite;

Weariness o'ertakes,
Shoulders bear the awful weight,
Of endless lost souls;

Thoughts swirling within,
He looks up and remembers,
Who he's fighting for;

Loved ones far behind,
Left in safety and shelter,
With hope to return,

A breath to steady,
Resolve set, going forward,
Plunging through chaos.

All right, this is one that I'd really like a title for, so if anyone has a suggestions I would really like to hear it. Thanks, and as always comments are appreciated.

Last day of break

So today is the last day of Easter Break so I thought this would be a good time to put up a Haiku that I've been putting off for a while.... Anyway, I wrote this Haiku for my friend Mary for her birthday, and with her permission I'm posting it here for everyone to enjoy. I had a good time writing this one, especially since it was the first one I've ever written for someone else. Inspiration for this would have to be faith I guess. Finding one's faith to bring their soul from darkness to light. So, anyway, here's the Haiku. Enjoy.

O My Soul

O my weary Soul,
Why art thou so dark, so cold?
What hast thou to fear?

Why such deep silence?
Such sorrowful loneliness,
Distraught of such depth.

Thou hast such a Light,
A Warmth, a gentle Kindness,
Darkness does not suit.

Why not be freed?
From such sorrow and despair,
Cast off binding chains.

A bright shining gift,
To chase away the Darkness,
To reveal thy Peace.

A Joy to behold,
Thy gentle warmth envelops,
Thy Peace found at last.

Well, I hope everyone enjoys this Haiku. Comments are always welcome, and for once I don't need title suggestions, which is a huge leap for me.

Easter break

So it's been a little while since I've put anything new up, and since I'm on break I thought, "Hey, why not do a couple Haiku to pass the time?" So that's what I'm doing. When I should, sadly, be doing homework. *Ahem*... Well, anyway, let's just see what I come up with. No particular themes this time, just whatever comes to mind.

Empty Heart

A deep sadness,
A sorrowful loneliness,
Darkness without light;

Profound loneliness,
Locked within an endless void,
Fate of empty hearts.

Untitled

Shadow swift and sharp,
Speeding across the surface,
Chasing silhouettes;

Overtakes swiftly,
A leap, a tumble, laughter,
A joyous greeting.

That went better than expected. Also feeling a bit better after writing. Anyway, may post once more before break is over, and as always, comments and title suggestions are appreciated.

Some free time

So I've had some free time the past couple of days for the first time in a while so I thought I would write a Haiku or two. The first one I created while hanging out with some friends in "The Lab" coffee shop on the campus of my college. It has no special meaning in particular, but is just kind of an expression of the feeling of chasing our dreams and desires. The second one is just me coming up with a Haiku on a whim.

Wings of a Dream

Falling feather soft,
Embraced by warm wings of light,
Chasing skyward dreams.

Untitled

Smoke curling upward,
A gentle breeze brushing by,
City lights below;

Relaxing by night,
Lingering scent of cigars,
Starlight from above.

As always, feel free to leave comments or title suggestions.

Valentine's Day

Since today was Valentine's Day I thought I might do a Haiku or two. Though I'm not a big fan of the Hallmark version of Valentine's Day, which is supposed to be a holiday celebrating the the martyrdom of St. Valentine. Though there are varied stories on St. Valentine, I suppose there are one or two variations include St. Valentine falling in love so there could be a basis for the Hallmark version of the day. But anyway, I'm way off topic. I think one on the real meaning of Valentine's Day and I suppose one on the Hallmark version, just for the people who like that. So, here they are.

Untitled

Clinging to the Hope,
Striving to hold to the Light,
Though Death reaches out;

Strong until the end,
Great is the reward of faith,
An eternal Grace.

Untitled

Entrusted to you,
With loving care, I give it,
Only yours, my Heart.

There we go, hope you enjoyed them. As always, comments and title suggestions are appreciated.

After the first week...

So, I'm already into my second week of second semester. It seems to be going fairly well, and I think I'll have more free time this semester, which is always good, right? Well, anyway, thought I'd just throw out a couple Haiku since I'm dodging homework... I mean, enjoying my free time. Well, here they are. No particular influences for these I don't think.

Untitled

Darkness smothering,
Shadows swirling all around,
Darkness descending.

Snowdrift

Leaping playfully,
Joyfully taking each step,
To the drifted snow.

As always, comments and title suggestions are always appreciated.

New Year's Post

Well, it's currently four in the morning as I am writing this so we'll see how it goes. This will just be a single Haiku, as I come up with it. The theme will be... Hmmm... End of the old beginning of the new? Sure, we'll go with that. Well, here's the Haiku, hope you like it. Enjoy.

Untitled

Anticipation,
Breath held, Eagerly waiting,
Watching the clock tick;

Friends gathered around,
Excitement thick in the air,
The clock counting down;

A hand held tightly,
A brief glance of excitement,
Time ever closer;

The moment arrives,
A shout, a yell, a small glance,
A smile, a hug;

The moment has passed,
Soft words amid rowdy noise,
A joyful future.

Happy New Year everyone! Title suggestions would be extremely helpful for this one, as I would like it titled, but I can't think of one that fits... If I use a title someone suggests I will give credit to that person. Have a good year everyone!
